Gayton Village Green
Gayton Gigs is proud to announce that it is supporting the village green extension program.
The Village Green Refurbishment Committee is part of the Village Green Action Team established as a result of the Parish Plan where it was identified that the village green needed attention to make it more accessible and useful and included suggestions such as seating and updated/additional play equipment.
The committee is chaired by David Ayre and made up of a number of volunteers including Sharon Crossley, Charlotte Donelly, Denise Sage, Sandra Morton and Joan Adams.
A proposal for the refurbishment of the village green was drawn up and the images below show before and after effects of the proposed changes. The general plan is to re-organise the car park area (making it rectangular), stretch the sports field and fence in the play area to make it safer for children.

After the tireless efforts of the Village Green Action Team, and especially the efforts of David Ayre, funding was secured to complete the phase 1 play area equipment. Unfortunately the funding was not sufficient to complete the green extension to increase the remaining play area.
Phase 1 of the village green program saw the fenced play area being completed in April 2008. Since its opening it has been a unanimous success with hundreds of children now having passed through the gates.
Because of the lengthy process of grant or funding applications, this has caused slight animosity between the school and Parish as the remaining green area is deemed too small by the school to be effective for sports and recreational activities for their pupils.
Both the Village Green Action Team and parents of pupils who attend Gayton School are now working together in an attempt to raise enough money voluntarily to facilitate phase 2 of this program.
Gayton Gigs is proud to be associated with this fund raising effort and we will attempt to raise as much money as quickly as possible.
